Reef Octopus Automated Neck Cleaner

Continuous Neck Cleaning: A Guide to the Reef Octopus Automated Neck Cleaner

Biofilm builds up inside a skimmer's neck over time, gradually restricting foam flow and reducing performance until someone manually scrubs it clean. The Reef Octopus Octopus Cleaner automated neck cleaner (ANC) does that scrubbing continuously, in sizes matched to nearly every skimmer neck in the lineup.

Why Biofilm Buildup Matters

As biofilm accumulates inside a skimmer neck, it narrows the effective opening and can change how foam rises and breaks, gradually degrading skimming performance in a way that's easy to miss until it's significant. Manual cleaning works but requires remembering to do it regularly.

Choosing a Size

The Octopus Cleaner ANC uses twin squeegees on a rotating mechanism to keep the neck continuously clear, sized specifically for 110, 150, 170, 200, 220, 250, and 300 skimmer necks, plus dedicated XP-1000 and XP-8000 sizes for the largest SRO models. The 220, 250, and 300 sizes are also available with an added float switch port for wiring in overflow protection.

Keeping It Running

The Automatic Neck Cleaner Replacement Blade B is the direct replacement cleaning blade for the Octopus Cleaner 170 through 300 models — like any continuously-moving squeegee, the blades wear with use and are worth keeping on hand.
