The Reef Octopus Classic 2000 HOB Protein Skimmer is the largest hang-on-back model in the Classic Series, built for aquarists without sump access who are running heavier bioloads than the 90/100/1000 HOB models can handle. A distinctive external pump placement keeps the motor outside the reaction chamber, which helps the unit run cooler and quieter over long duty cycles.

• Best for: reef, FOWLR, and mixed saltwater tanks without sump access, heavier bioload
• Setup: hang-on-back, external pump placement
• Pump: needle-wheel pump mounted outside the reaction chamber
• Maintenance: tall collection cup for longer intervals between empties

When a HOB skimmer needs to keep pace with a larger, more heavily stocked tank, the 2000 HOB is the top of the Classic hang-on-back line before you'd need to move to an in-sump setup.
