Dragon Goby 3-4"

The Dragon Goby (violet goby, Gobioides broussonnetii) is a large, eel-like sand-sifting fish that spends its time burrowing through the substrate, helping keep it clean and aerated. This species is euryhaline and can tolerate a range of salinities, but it does best long-term in brackish water - roughly 1.006-1.008 specific gravity, well below full marine strength - rather than a reef or full-saltwater display. It's a hardy scavenger that needs a soft sand bed and plenty of hiding spots. This specimen is 3-4 in.

• Size: 3-4 in (this specimen); can reach up to 15 in in captivity (up to 24 in in the wild).
• Minimum tank size: 40 gal / about 4 ft in length, with a deep soft sand or silt bed (3+ in).
• Water: Brackish - roughly 1.006-1.008 SG, 76-78°F. Not a reef-tank or full-marine fish long-term.
• Diet: Omnivore/detritivore - sinking pellets, meaty foods, algae wafers, and sifted detritus.
• Temperament: Peaceful, mostly nocturnal burrower; territorial toward its own species.

This is one to plan a dedicated brackish setup around rather than drop into an existing reef tank - the low salinity it needs long-term isn't compatible with corals or most reef invertebrates, so it's best suited to its own species-specific tank or other brackish-tolerant tankmates.
