Salifert Magnesium Profi-Test Kit

Magnesium runs high in natural seawater (1,300-1,400 mg/L) and does double duty: it's essential to chlorophyll for photosynthesis, and it keeps calcium and alkalinity from reacting into inert calcium carbonate before biological processes can put that calcium to use in coral and calcareous algae growth. Low magnesium speeds up that unwanted precipitation - and along with it, depletes trace elements that get scavenged in the process.

• Resolution: 30 mg/L steps, sharp color change, without calcium/strontium interference within normal ranges

Magnesium gets depleted by algae, heavy kalkwasser use, and pushing calcium/alkalinity/pH well past natural levels - and some salt mixes run naturally low in it, causing persistent calcium and alkalinity problems downstream. Use a high-purity magnesium additive, since some cheaper magnesium salts carry enough ammonia to disrupt biological balance.
