The WYSIWYG Pink Bird’s Nest Coral (Seriatopora) weaves fine, needle-tipped branches into an intricate pink nest that fills with a soft halo of polyps under good light. Faster-growing and hardier than most branching SPS, it’s a favorite first step into branching stony corals — just handle its brittle tips with care. • Difficulty: A great first branching SPS — hardy for its group, but wants SPS conditions.
• Lighting: Moderate to high. Start around PAR 100–150 and increase gradually; blue-heavy light brings out the pink.
• Flow: Moderate to high and random — keeps the fine branches clean, without a single harsh jet.
• Placement: Mid to upper rockwork with room to branch; secure the frag firmly so it can’t shift.
• Feeding: Mostly photosynthetic; optional fine foods and amino acids support color.
• Parameters: Stable alkalinity is critical (8–9 dKH), Ca 420–450, Mg 1,300–1,400, nutrients low but not zero.
